Birmingham CCC First Meeting 25th May 2012

Birmingham’s first Clandestine Cake Club meeting took place on a hot, summery evening in a little room above the Kitchen Garden Cafe in Kings Heath.

I arrived early to set up and nervously awaited the arrival of the first bakers and guests with a glass of Pimms. Bianca was first to show up with her spiced courgette cake, closely followed by Charlotte and the others.

The evening was great fun as we sat around the table chattering away like old friends discussing the cakes we’d made, possible themes and venues and what (aside from cake) we like to bake.

Our cakes looked resplendent with rays of sun coming through the window and it was an exciting moment when we all were able to dive at the cake table. We came away with plates piled high with slices of delicious cakes and comments and appreciation were passed around.  You could visibly see the sugar rush hit everyone… soon followed by the sugar coma!

The end of the evening saw the cakes sliced up and shared out. I can’t tell you how happy I was on Saturday to see those slices at lunch time!

Bakers of Birmingham – you were fabulous! I can’t wait for next time.
