The First Ever Surbiton Clandestine Cake Club (Sat 30th June 2012)

July 3, 2012 2:03 pm in Surbiton by Lisa Bevan

The theme for the first ever Surbiton CCC was ‘The British Weather’ and, for that particular day, the weather decided to behave and gave us a beautifully warm and sunny day (if a bit ‘breezy’ at times). This was a day I wouldn’t forget as I was so nervous: would people turn up, would they bring a cake, would it ever happen? People did turn up, they did bring cakes and it did happen. Two lovely members came who brought guests, all in all there were 6 of us and 3 cakes. A big thank you to Hannah and Gloria and their guests Emma, Youssuf and Lesley.
We settled down to a communal table where we chatted and laughed and got to know each other – it was great to learn about what each of us baked. There were two lemon ‘drizzle’ cakes, a strawberry tart (to celebrate the summer weather) and a rainbow cake. Each and every cake had a story to tell.

A great time was had by all, we talked about the weather and Surbiton and we all connected in some way over cake. And before we knew it, it was time to go home. The afternoon went by so quick – mind you time flies when you are having fun!

The event took place at The Pickled Pantry, which had only just opened that same week, we were looked after very well by the owners George and Jo who were very happy to have us back again.
