Dorset – Summer fruits

July 11, 2012 3:20 pm in Dorset by Charlotte

Last night, the Dorset CCC branch had a brilliant July meeting. Despite the heavy rain, flooding and road closures, we had a great turnout and what’s more, some even more fantastic cakes! People travelled from far and wide to be there, battling traffic jams and adverse weather conditions to arrive cakes in hand.

Getting stuck in

Having tried a recipe for the first time yesterday to take along, I was really nervous it would not work out. That’s the danger with making large cakes – you can’t get away with sneaking a little slice to check it takes ok! I was relieved to find that I wasn’t the only one who has tried something different on the night though.

A beautiful selection of cakes

We had a lovely selection of cakes – all of which were absolutely delicious. I kept the theme relatively simple – summer fruits – and our Dorset cake bakers used a wonderful array of summer fruits in their cakes; berries, currants, oranges, rhubarb and peaches. Here are a some of the lovely cakes we enjoyed:

Rhubarb and custard cake

Beautiful berries and cream topping a berry and greek yoghurt cake

Delicious chocolate cake with buttermilk and raspberries

Blackcurrant and chocolate cake

Delicious traditional marmalade cake with tea-soaked fruit

Sarah’s almond and berry cake

Peaches, cream and caramel cake

Thank you to everyone who came along. I’m looking forward to the next event already.

Thank you to LB Bistro who hosted our event so well last night.

LB Bistro – waiting for everyone to arrive (a nervous moment!)
