Cornwall’s 1st Birthday Party

October 17, 2012 4:45 am in Cornwall by Ellie Michell

A year on from our first meeting at The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay on 12th October 2011, it seemed only apt that we should celebrate our first birthday back at Watergate Bay. This time we met at the Watergate Bay Hotel, who kindly invited us to use their brand spanking new events space with a view to die for. (They even had a cake sideboard, with shelves for the cake boxes. I think they must have designed it especially for us.)

Our gorgeous venue – the events space at the Watergate Bay Hotel.

With coffees in hand, we lit the candles on our cakes, giggled our way through a rendition of “Happy Birthday” and tucked into the thirteen (baker’s dozen) delicious cakes.

Thank you very much to Alison, Judi, Heidi, Ellie and the staff at the Watergate Bay Hotel for looking after us so well. We hope they enjoyed the cakes too.

No 1! Nicky’s Walnut and Carrot Cake.

Emma’s very beautiful Chocolate, Courgette and Sweet Potato Cake.

Katie’s gluten free chocolate cake with ginger and chilli (really very good, I think we need the recipe).

Chris’ yummy and very pretty Carrot, Courgette and Orange Cake

You can’t go wrong with salted caramel. This is Nicette’s Chocolate and Cornish Sea Salt Caramel Cake.

Amanda’s beautiful Lemon Curd Cake.

Natalie’s Caramel Apple Birthday Present Cake.

Nicky’s scrummy “Chunky Monkey Banana Birthday Cake”.

Sarah’s Chocolate Malteser Cake, a firm favourite in our house.

Melodie’s Chocolate Chess Cake – and it really was checkered inside.

Jaye’s (and Nigella’s) Chocolate Delight.

Sarah’s “Gorgeous Lemon Cream Cake”. Gorgeous by name and gorgeous by nature.

Ellie’s Birthday Custard Sponge (à la Nigella).
