Knaresborough and Ripon- A Much Loved Classic
November 13, 2012 4:54 pm in Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon by Sam Smith
On Saturday 3rd November the newly formed Knaresborough and Ripon CCC met for their first event at the picturesque location of The Wellington Inn in Darley. This is in beautiful Nidderdale near Pateley Bridge in North Yorkshire. Jane found a gem of a location for our first event and the first thing we all noticed (apart from the scrumptious looking cake of course) was the rolling scenery bathed in afternoon sunshine that we could see from the conservatory.
The staff at the Wellington Inn looked after us and we were allowed to use their conservatory which was set up with one large table. We were able to buy drinks from the bar but we all chose tea or coffee. We went away thinking how lovely the venue was and how we would certainly like to return for an evening meal or a Sunday lunch. It particularly looked the sort of place you could imagine going to on a cold Winter Sunday for lunch before going off for a bracing walk afterwards.
Our theme for our first event was “A Much Loved Classic” and it was interesting that each member brought along something different.
Six different Much Loved Classic Cakes laid out on the large table in the sunny conservatory at the Wellington Arms, Darley.
Sue’s Carrot Cake with a Traditional Cream Cheese Frosting
Jane’s Coffee and Walnut Ring Cake
Annette’s Ginger and Lime Cake
Rebecca’s Lemon Greissetorte which was wheat free and made with ground almonds and semolina.
Brenda’s Raspberry and Pistachio Cake
Sam’s Maple Syrup Cake with a Fresh Cream Icing and with sugarpaste Autumn Leaves.
We are looking forward to our next event in the New Year.
