Valentines and CCC Book Signing Event
February 17, 2013 7:12 pm in King's Lynn and West Norfolk by Melanie
For this event I was both organiser and host, as Lynn had very kindly agreed to attend a book signing and CCC event in the cookshop owned by my husband and I in King’s Lynn. This involved the usual tasks of organising an event and making my own cake, as well as obtaining the CCC Cookbook and marketing materials from Quercus, making space in the shop, organising refreshments and inviting the local press. Lynn had a very early start, changing train twice to get here, but her feet hardly had time to hit the ground because the press photographers and reporters had arrived early and were keen to get started. Of course, the draw back to this was that many of the guests had not arrived, but luckily several of our team are members of CCC and could be photographed with their cakes. At one point we seemed to attract a crowd and got a spontaneous round of applause from passers by whilst having our photo taken! It was a busy day in town because Valentines Day is the traditional launch day of the King’s Lynn Mart (a travelling fair) attended by the Mayor of King’s Lynn, the Bishop of Lynn and other dignitaries, who all paraded past the shop.
With the publicity in the bag we were able to get on with tasting the 11 cakes that were bought along, all made with love for Valentines. It was also lovely to meet Marie-Anne (organiser of the Downham Market CCC) who had booked a place at our event. Lynn got busy signing books and chatting to members and the 2 hours soon passed. As it was a lunchtime event some of our members were unable to book a place, but they did pop in during their lunch break to buy the book, try some cake and meet Lynn, including Lindsey and Amy from Clarks shoe shop opposite who had to take some slices back to their colleagues as they were drooling at the sight of us all eating cake!
Lots of interest was shown by our customers who took information leaflets and sampled the cakes, so hopefully this along with the publicity that will follow will bring us some new members. We had full page features in the Lynn News and Eastern Daily Press the following day, and there is more to follow next week. Everyone said what a good time they had, and there were lots of compliments about the book and how lovely Lynn is. Happy days!!

I’ve been brave enough to become a member. Unfortunately I am on holiday when the next meeting takes place but I am looking forward to coming along to the one after. (and a bit nervous about it!) Jill
