Birmingham – Leave It Out! **Event FULL – email for reserve spaces***
Date: 31/05/2013
Time: 12pm - 1.30pm
Theme: Leave It Out!
HOORAY! This month Birmingham CCC is one whole year old!
To celebrate, our event will be sponsored by Yorkshire Tea. Your challenge is to make cakes but leave something out you might normally use and replace it with a substitute. Have you always wanted to try a flourless cake? Wanted to substitute butter for olive oil? Perhaps you know someone with dietary needs and you want to bake something with them in mind? Now's your chance!
Now, to make this a special birthday treat of an event I thought it would be nice if we did a little Secret Santa style thing... (is there a birthday equivalent?) Please bring a generic wrapped gift of no more than £5 in cost that you think any baker would like to receive and we'll all dig in to choose one and go home with something special to celebrate :)
Venue: Birmingham City Centre
Additional venue info: The venue is a wonderful business supporting some of the most vulnerable members of society in Birmingham and I am very proud that they are hosting one of our meetings.
It's a City Centre venue so there's plenty of parking and public transport links and hot and cold drinks will be available to buy from the venue.
Apologies to those of you who are unable to make this meeting because of the day and time but the venue closes at 4pm and does not open at weekends.

Birmingham – It’s the Baking Part that Counts – Charity Event
Date: 27/04/2013
Time: 12pm - 4pm
Theme: It's the Baking Part that Counts - Charity Event
In April we will be teaming up with the wonderful girls from ‘It’s the Baking Part that Counts’, a Birmingham based charity baking event.
Previously, the event has supported Cancer Research and Spinal Research and has raised in excess of £2000. Last year there were over 40 cakes entered into the competition with over 100 judges! Most of the girls are members of the Birmingham CCC and some of our members have been a part of past ‘It’s the Baking Part that Counts’ events.
This year, the event will run in The Prince of Wales pub in Moseley on Saturday the 27th April and will be in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
This is not a ‘normal’ Birmingham CCC event. When you email me you are, essentially, giving me and the girls an idea of numbers. You can also let me know whether you intend to enter a cake into the competition (for £5) or whether you would like to take part into the judging (for £2). All payments are to be made on the day of the event.
You can enter cakes into any, or all, of the following categories:
1. A baked cake that will be cut into and judged on its taste
2. Decorated cupcakes that will be judged on their appearance and will not be eaten
3. Decorated large cake that will be, as with the cupcakes, judged on their appearance and will not be eaten
The cakes are displayed on tables for everyone to see. As a part of the event, everyone who is at the venue (not exclusive to CCC members, it’s open to the public) can pay £2 to be a judge of the cakes (from all three categories) and there are some amazing prizes on offer for the winners including two separate baking classes from the Blue Door Bakery, where we had a meeting last September. Finally, you can also offer to donate your decorated cake to a raffle at the end of the event.
***I will update this event (and email all those who show an interest) as soon as I have specific cake entry drop-off times and the official event poster.***
I hope you are all as excited as I am to be able to support and contribute to such a worthy cause.

Venue: Moseley

Date: 18/02/2013
Time: 6.30pm - 8pm
Theme: It's Five O'Clock Somewhere
Christmas was fabulous - overindulgence reigned supreme. Yes!
January detoxes mean we'll all have to stick to our resolutions (*cough*) so...
In February we can fall off the wagon in spectacular fashion!
Our venue is 'an intimate city centre public house' with a 'Victorian inspired Gin Parlour' known for their seasonal foods and fabulous cocktails.
Our theme is 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere', based on that country music classic. Now is your chance to make a cake with something to do with the beverage of your choice: Whether you're a lover of cocktails, mocktails, a stiff whiskey or you're a sophisticated champagne quaffer bake a cake with the drink of your choice, inspired by the drink of your choice or even to accompany the drink of your choice!
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with this time and to warm you up, here's a little inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPCjC543llU

Birmingham – Weißer Winterwald ***EVENT NOW FULL*** Reserves list open
Date: 22/11/2012
Time: 6pm - 7.30pm
Theme: Weißer Winterwald
Now, I am not a German speaker but an online translator told me that Weißer Winterwald meant Winter Wonderland...
I have chosen a German theme in honour of the return of the German Market which will be back in Birmingham City Centre by the time this meeting takes place.
Choose a cake that reflects Germany, a German Christmas or just a lovely winter warmer that takes you to a special place on a chilly day.
Venue: A fabulous independent coffee shop in Birmingham City Centre
Additional venue info: All refreshments to be bought from the venue. Parking is plentiful as we'll be in the City Centre.
We finish at 7.30pm so, if you've not managed to fill up on cake, there's still time to pop out and sample a glühwein or a sausage before you head home :)

Theme: Trick or Treat
Well, as Halloween is so close I couldn't really pretend it wasn't happening, could I?

Birmingham – Inspired By… ***EVENT NOW FULL***
Date: 09/09/2012
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Theme: Inspired By...
The theme for the September meeting is 'Inspired By...' The idea behind this is that you bake a cake inspired by a famous chef, baker, pâtissier or even a member of your family.
I am going to stipulate one more rule: Last time we had a tremendous array of cakes and more than our share of chocolate so this time around chocolate is... banned!
Venue: A quirky little bakery in Hagley, Worcestershire
Additional venue info: The venue is a lovely little bakery that also provides classes to the public. We will be given an icing demonstration and teas and coffees will be provided.
We're going outside the borders of Birmingham for this meeting and we're trying a different date and time to make the meeting as accessible as possible for all.
