Challenge! At Kavahagh’s Tea Room

A technical challenge on the bake off was the inspiration for the latest theme for Stamford’s July meeting.  The delightful new vintage tea room in Oakham, Kavanagh’s, was the venue.  Clare Kavanagh, the owner of the gorgeous tea room, is a coeliac and so has a daily challenge of baking cakes (all her cakes in the tea room are gluten free!).

She shared her own gluten-free lemon cake with the group, which was so light and fluffy you could not believe it was gluten free.

Chatter turned towards the new series of the Great British Bake Off and we will wait with interest as to how successful it will become!

In the meantime, our cakes were:

Cheryl – Lemon Roulade

Louise – Lemon Drizzle Cake

Vic – Victoria Sponge, with lemon filling and an amazing decoration (her challenge!)

Vicky – Scandinavian Kladdkaka

Cheryl’s Lemon Roulade – her first since cookery at school!
Louise – Lemon Drizzle Cake
Vic’s Victoria Sponge, with lemon filling and a gorgeous decoration on top!
Vicky’s Swedish Kladdkaka (even saying it was a challenge!)

Feedback about ideas for venues and dates were welcomed.  If anyone has any other ideas, please contact either Anthea or I.
