On Saturday 18th May we gathered for our first event of 2017 in the venue which hosted our first event for a number of years in April 2016, The Red Lion in Wybunbury. A second time around our hosts were just as welcoming and we had a wonderful afternoon enjoying an array of cakes inspired by our current season!
We were an intimate gathering with six cakes which were all so delicious, I actually managed to sample each one over the course of our afternoon (please don’t judge me, they were so tempting!). Unfortunately one of our members had a ‘cake-tastrophe’ when assembling her cake, which happens to all of us cake enthusiasts at some point or another. Yet Anne still came along and brought her ‘Black Forest Mess’ for us all to sample, and WOW, it just goes to show a cake doesn’t have to be pretty to taste phenomenal! I hope we all take some inspiration from that because I’m sure that we will all have cakey mishaps along the way, but cake club isn’t about a competition, it’s not about having the ‘best looking’ cake, or even the tastiest cake, it’s about trying new things, sharing our cakes, ideas, baking highs & lows with our fellow bakers and having a jolly good time over a slice or two and a good chat!
The lovely cakes we had to sample were:
- Strawberry & Limeade with cream cheese & strawberry frosting
- Lemon & poppyseed cake with mascarpone cream & lemon curd
- Courgette, Lemon & Cardamom bundt cake
- Black Forest Mess Cake
- Lemon Cake (with homemade lemon curd)
- Raspberry Cream Cake
All in all we had a wonderful afternoon and it certainly got me looking forward to our events to come over the rest of 2017!
