Fleet Farnham and Farnborough – Flower Power!

The Venue

Our June meeting was an outdoor gathering, kindly hosted by Pamela. We enjoyed a lovely balmy evening in her beautiful back garden. We were surrounded by fragrant flowers to compliment our floral themed cakes!

The Cakes

Some of us used floral inspired ingredients. Sandy made a lovely heart shaped cake decorated with rose petals. (She obviously had romance on her mind – but more of that later in the blog!!) Philip’s cake was a sumptuous Poppy and Thyme lemon drizzle cake with a rich creamy filling. Natasha’s  pink  bubbles and rose Bundt was flaboured with rose water, giving it an exotic ‘Turkish delight’ flavour! Claire’s lemon sponge had the addition of saffron, as well as yellow sugar peonies on the top.  Catherine F treated us to a lovely Darjeeling and Raspberry cake which was creatively iced on the top with a ‘stained glass’ flower. Some of us brought ‘fruit themed’ cakes (well a plant has to blossom before it bears fruit!!) So Pamela made one of her Banting special cakes, a sponge indulgently coated in a delicious passion fruit buttercream and Catherine H came with a fabulous Greek lemon Bundt with a yoghurt icing.

Some of us used the floral theme as the inspiration for the decoration of their cakes. Melanie made a gorgeous sponge decorated with bold white blossoms on a sunny yellow background, whilst Deborah used real flowers, including Heartsease and nasturtiums to decorate a lovely light sponge! Karen chose to drip ice her delicious Bundt and then top with pretty pink blossoms and leaves.

Ten delicious ‘flowery’ cakes were thoroughly enjoyed by all as well as Claire’s guest Daniela!

The evening ended with a delicious glass of bubbly (thank you Pamela!!) So we could all toast Sandy and wish her all the best for her wedding (in a few days time!) We presented her with a wedding gift from us all – a Portmeirion cake slice  (well we are a cake club!!) and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

So from us all, may I take the opportunity to say many congratulations to you Sandy and Dave. We wish you every happiness for your future together!

Thank you all and especially Pamela for hosting another wonderful cake club get together!

See you on the 24th July!
