Five fabulous cakes graced the table at GYBC’s inaugural Clandestine Cake Club meeting on Monday 20 March, held in the Nelson Room in the Town Hall. Victoria sponge, banana loaf, carrot cake, angel cake and an impressive chocolate and orange Battenberg cake got the session underway and the conversation rolling. With tales of cakes Mums used to make, last-minute ingredient substitutions made mid-bake, guinea pig cakes tested out on unsuspecting partners and childhood confessions about licking almost all the cream from the middle of the Sunday tea Victoria sponge on the way home from the bakery, a delicious lunch hour was had by all. Colleagues in strategic planning, HR, economic development, enterpriseGY and tourism also benefited from the cake club’s first meeting, as slices of cake were taken back for them to sample.
We’d love to see some more people at our next get together, and please don’t feel you have to be a master baker to join in – all bakers are welcome, it’s a really friendly group and we’re all very supportive if things go wrong or icing is a disaster (happens to us all the time!)
